One of the state’s biggest tourism destinations remains Amritsar, home to the Golden Temple, which continues to attract visitors from across India and around the world. Religious tourism remains one of the strongest drivers of Punjab’s tourism sector, while food tourism, heritage tourism, and cultural events are also helping increase visitor numbers throughout the state.
According to tourism data published through CEIC Data, Punjab recorded more than 35.7 million domestic tourist visits during 2023, showing a major increase compared to the previous year. Foreign tourist arrivals in Punjab also increased significantly during the same period.
Punjab’s tourism growth has also encouraged continued investment in hotels, restaurants, transportation, and infrastructure projects across the state. Reports discussing Punjab’s tourism development policies highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen tourism infrastructure and improve travel experiences for visitors.
Government officials and tourism industry representatives have also continued promoting Punjab as a major tourism destination during investment and development events. Recent reports stated that Punjab recorded approximately 2.57 crore tourist visits during 2024, reflecting continued tourism growth across the region.
As Punjab continues developing roads, hospitality services, and tourism-focused infrastructure, the state is expected to remain one of North India’s most important destinations for religious tourism, cultural travel, and Punjabi culinary experiences.
